Interval workout example: The physiology of an elite vs. average joe

💦 Interval workouts can provide a great stimulus when programmed/scaled well.

💀 Importantly, when the weights and reps are too high, or when ego takes over, the athlete can ‘blow up’ near the end, which results in a suboptimal stimulus.

👉 Here, we give some perspective on how the physiology could look like when an elite CrossFit® athlete performs the interval workout described in slide one, vs. when an average CrossFit® trainee (normal human being) would do this workout. Note, the workout is too heavy (weight, reps) for the average CrossFitter.

📉📈 The elite is able to recover between interval sets and can go hard every working set. While the average Joe cannot recuperate, cannot get his/her lactate down and has to slow down substantially near the end. Avoid this at all costs, analyze the workout on beforehand and scale appropriately so you will have work to rest ratio of approx. 1:1.
