🔥 Tapering practices of trained weightlifters.
↘️ The strategy of reducing load and/or training intensity in the days leading up to a competition has been well-documented to enhance performance in various sports.
👀 In a recent study, a large group of male and female competitive weightlifters were surveyed about their tapering techniques. It was found that nearly all participants tapered and began the process 8 days prior to the competition by reducing both training load and intensity. Interestingly, this is earlier than reported tapering practices among CrossFit athletes, who typically begin tapering only 5.4 days before competition.
❌ Training was stopped completely approximately 1.5 days before the competition, and heavy resistance training was halted even earlier before the technical lifts. This approach makes sense given the more fatiguing and muscle-damaging nature of heavy resistance training compared to technical lifts.
