Injury and CrossFit®

🗣 You heard it a lot. ‘CrossFit® is dangerous and gets you injured much more quickly than other sports’.

🕵🏻‍♂️ Well… the scientific data actually refutes this statement. In this study presented above, 400+ Brazilian CrossFit® participants were asked to fill out a questionnaire about their injuries in the last 12-months while doing CrossFit®.

🚑 Turns out that injury rate per 1000 training hours (3.2) was not substantially different than in other comparable sports such as powerlifting and conventional strength training (2.6). In fact, street running has been reported to induce more than double the amount of injuries per 1000h of training.

💡 Interesting fact, the more competitive the participants were, the higher chances they got to become injured and shoulder/lumbar region were the most injury prone regions. Writing this while watching the semi finals, where several athletes dropped out due to injury…

👉 Bottom line: find yourself a good CrossFit® affiliate with well-educated coaches and the chances to get injured are not higher, if anything lower, than in most other sports. The benefits of exercise in the long term - any exercise - will always outweigh the potential risk of acute injury.
